Putting this on here first because...well, I don't have a file like this for Xander yet so I'm not going to post my civilian files before I post my spy files on yGallery. That'd be silly.
Anyway, here's Derek Ling! The roommate of Xander Stone [Aka Amethyst aka Amy] from Rookie Mistake. Derek is half Japanese, half Russian. He is very tiny and cute.
His parents met though business and had Tanya [Derek's older sister]. They lived in Russia for a while, but eventually moved to England. In part because Mrs. Ling was a Beatles fan and in part because her father hated Mr. Ling. When Tanya was fifteen, Derek was born. He was born and raised in England. He can speak multiple languages [speaking English, German, and French is very common in Europe], but Russian and Japanese aren't among what he can speak. This is mostly because his father had a hard time learning English so he tried to encourage everyone to speak English in the home so he could get better practice at it.
Derek is three years older then Xander. The two of them met when Derek was visiting Tanya after she broke both legs in a car accident [she got better]. He was sent to the children's rec room, where he met a very surly Xander. The two became friends and Derek continued to visit long after Tanya was released.
Derek is gay. He's actually fairly open about it if someone asks him flat out and when he was 18, he even dated one of the male nurse interns at the hospital.
However, Xander was given "The Talk" by gossiping nurses so he was traumatized about sex. Since 'Amy' is scared of getting intimate with someone of either gender, Derek keeps very tight lipped about his preferences when the two are together.
In a recent story, Derek and a Brown Agent known as Mud became friends.
In the Closet Dust AU, since Xander wouldn't have survived into adult hood [no method of fighting cancer back then], Derek lives a very different life. He's still friends with Mud, Mud still hates his cousin, and Lavender still hates men in general. I haven't really written anything I feel like posting for Closet Dust so until I get around to developing it, Old Derek and Modern Derek are the same...only one wears Chinese clothes...despite not being Chinese.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
